Outsourcing payroll as a DGA: what it really involves
The payroll of a BV falls under the broader task of bookkeeping for BVs, all-in, at a fixed monthly fee. Even so, this part deserves separate attention, because for a director-major shareholder (DGA) it is considerably more complex than a standard payslip.
As a DGA you are required to pay yourself a salary that meets the customary salary rules (gebruikelijkloonregeling). For 2026, this salary must be at least the highest of: the salary of the most comparable employment, 75% of that salary, or the statutory minimum wage. The tax authority (Belastingdienst) actively checks this. A DGA salary that is too low leads to corrections and additional assessments; a salary that is too high costs unnecessary payroll tax. Determining the right amount is a judgement call that depends on your specific situation and structure.
Does your BV also employ staff? Then the following is added: keeping the payslips up to date, processing holiday days and leave, the monthly payroll tax return with the tax authority, the payment of payroll taxes and employee insurance contributions, and, if you have just started, applying for a payroll tax number. Each of these steps has its own deadline. Miss one and penalties follow.
Many DGAs ask themselves whether to outsource payroll or do it yourself. Doing it yourself is technically possible with payroll software, but it demands a structural investment of time, knowledge of the current tables and payroll tax rules, and the discipline to file on time every month. One mistake in the tax tables or one missed change in the contribution rates costs you more than outsourcing ever would. Outsourcing to a specialist means the payroll is processed correctly and on time every month, without you having to look at it. Nummerix processes the payroll for your DGA and your employees as a fixed part of the monthly package for your BV. You receive the payslips digitally, the tax authority receives the return on time, and you know what it costs before you start. No additional billing, no hourly invoicing afterwards.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What does outsourcing payroll to Nummerix cost?
The payroll for your DGA and your employees is part of one fixed monthly fee (excl. VAT). The exact amount depends on your BV structure and the number of staff. Request a quote without obligation and you will receive a concrete amount within one working day. There is no additional billing and no hourly invoicing afterwards.
Can I also do my BV's payroll myself?
You can. As a DGA you are not obliged to outsource the payroll administration. Doing it yourself does mean applying the current payroll tax tables and contribution thresholds every month, filing the payroll tax return on time and processing changes correctly. A mistake costs you additional assessments and penalties. Many DGAs choose to outsource payroll precisely because the time investment and the risk of errors do not outweigh the cost of outsourcing.
What DGA salary should I pay myself in 2026?
The tax authority applies the customary salary rules: your salary must be at least the highest of the salary in the most comparable employment, 75% of that, or the statutory minimum wage. The right amount depends on your sector and structure. We determine this at the start of our cooperation and monitor it during the year. For personal advice on your situation we recommend an introductory call; the outcome always depends on the facts of your BV.
Can I switch if I already have a payroll administrator or bookkeeper?
Yes. We arrange the handover. Your fixed contact person gets in touch with your current firm or payroll provider and collects the payroll records. You do not have to export files or coordinate anything yourself. As soon as the handover is complete, we process the next payroll run.
Does Nummerix also process payroll if I have employees besides my DGA salary?
Yes. We process payslips for your DGA and for your employees. Changes such as salary adjustments, new staff or employees leaving are processed on the basis of what you send us. We file the monthly payroll tax return with the tax authority on time for all staff together.
How does payroll work in a holding and operating company structure?
In a holding structure, the question of which BV pays you and how the management fee flows between the entities matters for correct processing. We know these structures and align the payroll with your specific set-up. Read more about how we set up the bookkeeping for your holding and operating company.
